Sadly, no: the latter was an Australian anarchist publisher living in London. But the ITMA Ted Kavanagh was P.J. It was ...I really enjoyed reading this post, David. It was especially interesting to see your take on his work side by side with a likely influence, The Goons. I love English humor and think to this day that the English create funnier movies than those from Hollywood. Some of your examples were riots. This freshness..this playfulness carried over into poetry...wonderful to see any time, anywhere. You don't see many humorous poems published or winning prestigious awards, just as I can't remember any comedy winning an Academy Award (though I'm sure there must have been a few). Thank you for your time in pulling this all together.Prishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16567595853909234738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3156873379698580811.post-29800728616489161862008-03-15T04:19:00.000-07:002008-03-15T04:19:00.000-07:00David, great post. It's too easy to get hung up on the poetic influences and comparisons in a writer's work; we forget that poets are contemporary with other media too. I often find myself groping for comparisons for Donald Barthelme, and the only one that fits with any accuracy is Monty Python.

Simon Turner, Gists and PithsThe Editorshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06264669059410810775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3156873379698580811.post-60789217434159362532008-03-15T03:41:00.000-07:002008-03-15T03:41:00.000-07:00in response to commentI have a colleague that have...in response to comment

I have a colleague that have studied how young women from a country in the Orient maintain their cultural identity across nations in the West by the use of Internet. According to the research result they assimilate better in the new country. Probably because they can live "in the two worlds", without having to "fight" for their identity, they can act on both scenes, and still be "one". They don't have to prove to themselves what they are and what they are not 'cause they are one intact Self! The place becomes kind of irrelevant to identity.

PS will be back reading Your postANNA-LYShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03503734017177492952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3156873379698580811.post-74636016209467309232008-03-15T00:46:00.000-07:002008-03-15T00:46:00.000-07:00An entertaining post with some interesting and not...An entertaining post with some interesting and noteworthy insights into the English traditions of verbal playfulness ... I do hope we have an identity called The Self, that are not depended on place, but developed through experiencing different places. If that identity, "the Self" wouldn't exist it would be absolutely dangerous to move from place to place, we would fall apart! It is already difficult for refuges and immigrants to loose the other parts of our identity, those You called "the linked ones".
Thank You!ANNA-LYShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03503734017177492952noreply@blogger.com
